After a varied career encompassing production and stage management for some of Canada’s leading dance organizations as well as teaching dance production at the Ryerson Theatre School, I ‘retired’ in 2001 and took an administrative position with a leading audio visual staging supplier. Fairly adept at learning new computer programs, I took on the challenge of looking after the company’s digital media – building an image library, updating and administering the company’s visual identity, and creating new ads and banners.
A comprehensive course at Toronto Image Works Institute took me far beyond my initial fumbling about in Photoshop and Illustrator and introduced me to the wonders of InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Acrobat. Website design using Dreamweaver and presentation design with PowerPoint rounded out the seven month program and prepared me to handle challenges in a variety of media.
Since moving to the Quinte region of Eastern Ontario in 2006, I have spent countless hours learning the skills to build websites that are standards-compliant and rank well in search engines; in other words, websites that work! Along the way, I’ve built sites with WordPress, Joomla! and my favourite, CMS Made Simple, as well as e-commerce sites with Zen Cart and Big Commerce. And in a case of the circles of life completing, I’m the webmaster for the Ryerson Theatre School, where I received my theatre training in the early ’80′s.
In my spare (?) time, I enjoy capturing the magic of flowers and bugs and the natural world and show my photographs at local shows. I’m a member of the Brighton Arts Council and on the executive of Arts Quinte West, as well as belonging to the Brighton and District Chamber of Commerce and the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce. I’ve met some wonderful business women through my association with the Power of Women Exchange and the Womens’ Small Business Network.
